€348m Nairobi BRT: European donors push for fares close to informal transport prices
The Nairobi Core Bus Rapid Transit Line 3 (BRT 3) project is being financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) to the tune of €201 million and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to the tune of €74 million. An additional €45 million is being provided from the European Union budget. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH will provide technical assistance to help implement the project.

The loans and grants were approved internally. The financing agreements with the Government of Kenya are expected to be signed in the next few weeks. The government will contribute €66.3 million.
