Asante Gold hires four Canadian consulting firms to counter “dissident” shareholders’ challenge

Listed in Canada and Frankfurt, the €370 million junior mining company saw its board strongly challenged at its recent AGM. The company is integrating the neighbouring Chirano and Bibiani mines in Ghana, which comprise almost all of its assets.

The latest AGM of the mining group Asante Gold held on 21 December in Vancouver, did not go as planned. Shareholders described by management as “dissidents” attempted to overturn several resolutions of the board of directors, chaired by Douglas MacQuarrie (69), founder and former CEO. The motion on the management preference share programme was approved by only 51.5%.
