A game of musical chairs is taking place between the Burkinabe and Bissau-Guinean subsidiaries of the Development Bank of Mali (BDM). After setting the Banque de l’Union (BDU) in Burkina Faso on the right track – bringing its balance sheet from a dry loss of FCFA 533 million in 2015 at its inception to nearly FCFA 400 billion as of 30 June this year – the Malian economist is handing over the general management to a banker, a pure BDM product. Karim Bagayoko will take the helm of the Union Bank of Guinea-Bissau in Burkina, replacing El Hadj Amadou Sankaré.
