The parties have agreed on an expert to preside over the tribunal in the person of Barton Legum. The American has already participated in an arbitration between Vicat and an African state, namely Senegal, between 2014 and 2016. The latter had finally been suspended at the initiative of Vicat, the local owner and Sococim, and defended at the time by Thierry Lauriol of the Jeantet firm. In addition, Barton Legum is familiar with the Egyptian legal framework from a previous arbitration between Cairo and Dubai’s Future Pipe Industries, which specialises in pipe systems for the hydrocarbon sector.
