Merafe Chrome Venture, a joint venture owned 20.5% by South African mining and exploration company Merafe Resources and 79.5% by Swiss group Glencore, has started constructing a new platinum group metals (PGM) production facility near the Kroondal mine in the northwest.

The facility will be operational by 2022. Kroondal is one of South Africa’s largest platinum reserves.
