“We are in a continuous process of development and plan to open one to two countries per year in the coming years to serve our customers, architects, builders, contractors […] locally. Outside SADC, export flows between African countries are difficult. Hence the fact that our sites are generally sized for the countries in which we operate. Because of these intra-continental logistical constraints, we have an absolute need to be as close as possible to the markets and to use local raw materials,” Jean-Claude Lasserre, Saint-Gobain‘s managing director for sub-Saharan Africa, based in Johannesburg, told Africa Business+.
