The pandemic has changed the conditions capital investors operate, complicating due diligence and slowing down certain financing. In Africa, financing needs from the private sector remain significant, and the fabric of firms to be financed has developed in several markets, in West and East Africa.
Sectors that are hungry for capital are emerging, such as digital infrastructures (like the financing of Actis in the field of data centres). More generally, the most supported start-ups and more established companies are those that benefit from the digitization of the continent. Pamoja Ventures, launched in March, invests in financial services.
Health, logistics (as underlined by the example of ARCH Emerging Markets, on the cold chain) or agribusiness have also been at the centre of the priorities in recent months, and in view of the health crisis affecting value chains.
