The launch of the new terrestrial fibre optic network project in April made a lot of noise in Guinea. However, the component equipping Conakry with surveillance cameras was more or less overlooked until the local press noticed new equipment in the streets of the capital and started asking questions about its purpose. We must look to the Chinese technology giant Huawei for answers.
