Even before the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic – which aggravated the existing crisis in the Egyptian construction sector – the Franco-Swiss giant had decided to pull out from aggregates and halt losses in this oversaturated segment.

In May, the Egyptian government also suspended the granting of construction permits for a period of six months in the country, which represents LafargeHolcim’s fourth largest Africa market in terms of production capacity.
