Despite the headache of transporting iron via a crumbling railway, the Mayoko mine remains an asset of choice for Paul Obambi and his Sapro Group in view of the 1.5bn tonnes of buried mineral deposits. In a pragmatic move, his son, Paul Obambi Jr., who leads the mining subsidiary Sapro Mayoko SA, is using the time to focus on the mine and invest in the site’s facilities, pending the railway’s upgrade.
