In Guinea, a French firm is monitoring Huawei’s fibre optics works

Financed and implemented by the Chinese, the terrestrial fibre optic network soon to be operational in Guinea needed help from a third-party firm. Already highly active in West Africa and determined to grow on the continent, the French firm Tactis took on the mission.

Although the backbone service’s launch has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sanoussy Dabo, Managing Director of the National Backbone Management and Operation Company (SOGEB), remains unfazed about the quality of the 4,000 kilometres of terrestrial optical fibre installed in Guinea by Huawei for some $238m, financed by Eximbank China.  “We are not the only ones in the sub-region working hard to make it happen,” he told Jeune Afrique Business+.
