On the verge of bankruptcy, the Entreprise nationale des industries de l’électroménager – ENEIEM), based in Tizi Ouzou, 100km east of Algiers, recently benefited from a 1.1bn dinars ($9.6m) State loan. Another loan of 1.5nbn to 2bn dinars is due to follow soon. The immediate objective is to bail out the entity which is struggling with high payroll and operating costs, while waiting for a recovery plan. To turn around the national manufacturer of household appliances, it has been revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Mines is not ruling out a privatization plan. Few details have filtered out at this stage but there are rumours of a partial opening of the capital.
