DP World’s ambitions in Ethiopia are failing to materialize

DP World had undertaken to work with Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE), the former shipping company which became the state-owned monopoly in charge of the country’s logistics, particularly for the development of container depots and dry ports. With Industrial Park Development Corp, DP World was also due to discuss the construction of industrial parks. To date, however, nothing has been done. Last year, the government announced a partial privatisation of ESLSE which is highly coveted by the world’s major shipping and logistics operators. Following a visit to Ethiopia by French President Emmanuel Macron in March 2019, CMA CGM also expressed its interest.
