Franco-Senegalese company Avisen has invested around CFA francs 1bn ($1.65m) of equity capital to build an abattoir with a throughput of 10,000 birds a day. The new facility is due to start production in February 2020.

“We are seeking to offer a processed poultry product that meets strict international health and safety standards. At the same time, we want to provide our partner poultry breeders with greater opportunities in a sector which is already strong but which often struggles to bring quality products to consumers,” explained Papa Seck, the joint head of the company with Bernard Anselme in comments to Jeune Afrique Business+.
