Eskom has taken legal action against Deloitte to recover 207.7 million rand ($14m) in stolen funds in connection with contracts it alleged were improperly awarded to the consultancy, in collusion with management at the power utility which generates nearly all of South Africa’s electricity. In a statement published on 21 October, the company’s acting CEO Jabu Mabuza accused the multinational of using “unofficial channels” during tenders for consultancy services that it secured in 2016.
